Search with your consent
The police may search your premises if you consent, as well as where they have legal powers to do so. They can assume consent to a routine scene of crime search. However, Code B provides that before seeking your consent the officer in charge should state the purpose of the proposed search, inform you that you are not obliged to consent and that anything seized may be used in evidence. For the search to be lawful you must consent in writing. If you live in rented accommodation the police should not search the premises solely on the basis of your landlord's consent unless you are unavailable and the matter is urgent.
