Employment Tribunal hearings are public hearings. In certain circumstances you may apply for an order to protect your identity in the reporting of the hearing or publication of the decision. This can include preventing the publication of your name as a transsexual litigant.

Civil Claims

Once the relevant provisions have been brought into force, any civil claims should be submitted to the county court or sheriff court within 6 months of the date of the act. For further information as to how these provisions currently apply in relation to sex discrimination see How to Complain About Sex Discrimination.

The Equal Opportunities Commission

Under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has been given specific power to promote equality of opportunity for transsexuals in the field of employment and vocational training. From October 2007, the EOC is to be replaced by the Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR) The CEHR will take over many of the duties and function of the EOC. Such duties and functions are likely to be extended to the fields of education, housing, goods, facilities and services, and enforcing the duties of public authorities, once such provision are extended to transsexuals.
