Disability Discrimination
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) is the first attempt to use legislation to comprehensively address the issue of discrimination against disabled people. The DDA outlaws discrimination against disabled people in the fields of employment, provision of goods and services, education, housing and public transport. In addition, the DDA imposes duties on public authorities to address disability discrimination and sets up the Disability Rights Commission (DRC) to combat discrimination and promote equality for disabled people.
This chapter sets out the meaning of disability under the DDA, and then looks at protection from discrimination in each of the fields. Finally, it looks at how you can enforce your rights under the DDA.
