Background to the Voluntary Sector Advice Service

There are in excess of 350,000 non profit organisations, ranging from neighbourhood community groups to huge charities. A report conducted by the British Institute of Human Rights and funded by Comic Relief, highlighted a lack of knowledge amongst these organisations on how the Human Rights Act could be used as a tool to positively affect the lives of their clients.

Liberty believes that human rights have no meaning without an understanding of how they can be used to help people or the means to enforce them. Liberty hopes that this service will provide advice and information on human rights and the Human Rights Act to voluntary organisations and community groups to enable them to help their service users and clients better.

If you have any questions about the advice service, feedback on this section of the website, or other non-legal questions, please email vas@liberty-human-rights.org.uk.
