| You are here > Home > About this site > ContactDo you need further advice and information about human rights?Liberty offers a free human rights advice service to members of the public. Before contacting our advice service, please read the below information very carefully.
Is the answer to your question on the YourRights website? We use the information on the YourRights website to answer many of the queries we receive. If the answer to your query is on the YourRights website, by far the fastest way for you to receive an answer is to find the information yourself. Before submitting your query, make sure you have looked through the areas of law covered (use the navigation bar on the left) as well as: - Human Rights Act 1998: an overview - FAQ's Can Liberty provide advice on all areas of law? Liberty will provide advice and information on queries relating to human rights law, we are unable to assist with general legal queries. Advice given under this service is not to be considered formal legal advice. We can only advise on the law of England & Wales. Will Liberty take on my case? Liberty is a small organisation with very limited resources. We receive a great deal of queries but only take up a very small proportion of these as cases. We focus our efforts on bringing test cases that we believe will result in positive changes to the law, usually by mounting a challenge under European human rights law or the Human Rights Act 1998. We do not have the capacity to do general case work. I already have a solicitor, can Liberty still advise me? Liberty does not consider it appropriate to advise individuals who are already represented by a solicitor. You should raise any questions or concerns about your case with your solicitor. Liberty does have a telephone advice service for solicitors who are seeking assistance on Human Rights Act issues relating to their cases. If your solicitor holds a civil or criminal legal aid contract he or she can contact us on 0808 808 4546. How long will I wait for a reply? Lastly, please note that the queries we receive are dealt with by our two Advice and Information Officers. Due to the very large volume of queries that we receive, detailed responses can take eight to ten weeks. If you think your query is urgent, call the LIBERTY ADVICE LINE on 0845 123 2307 during the following hours: Monday & Thursday: 6.30 pm - 8.30 pm Wednesday: 12.30 pm - 2.30 pm ~ Query Form (Printable pdf Version)
If you prefer to send us your query in paper form, please download, print and complete form, and post to Advice and Information, Liberty, 21 Tabard Street, London, SE1 4LA.
